I’m on more web-based social networks than I can throw a stick at. Unlike most people, I’ve been on more web-based social networks than I can throw a stick at for coming-up-a-decade; and still, I consider myself late to the game.

I’m on Myspace, Bebo, Xanga, Facebook, Mail.ru, Yandex.ru, Vkontakte.ru (7/2008) and more forum sites than I can remember, for just about everything in every aspect of my life – mysites.com (7/2008), computer stuff, webhosting stuff, programming stuff, friend sites, job sites, drupal, oscommerce, guru.com, launchpad, linkedin, 43 things (and the other 43’s), digg, slashdot, iesaf, finland forum, ubuntu, gaijinpot, digihitch, travelpost, del.icio.us, wlug, nzlug, nzoss, wikipedia, hospitality club, twitter, oldfriends and about 1200 other things (says google). Almost always I go my the username “mgcarley”.

But the craziest phenomenon at the moment is Facebook. Seriously, what the hell?
People use this site like crazy. So much so that I find even myself logging in to facebook more than once a year (Last login to the first 3 WBSN sites I mentioned would be estimated some time between September 2006 and March 2007) to actually keep in touch with people or update stuff.

So much for having a personal website. With all the stuff available these days, I almost might-as-well-not-bother with stuff like madabouteu.com (currently offline) or even this site. But then again, having this site gives me the freedom to tinker, and maybe that’s why I keep doing it.

I love to take stuff apart/break it/fix it/debug it/improve it… but I’m not (completely) socially inept as, say, Dilbert – although my previous post might lead you all to believe otherwise. Ah well, I don’t care. I can’t even remember why I started writing this post. I just had a sudden urge to generate publicity for talk about how crazy facebook is, for some reason.

Anyway, I need food now, and the sun is going down over the north end of Shikoku, and there are some pretty dark clouds coming down from Honshuu, so I’d better rattle my dags, even though the supermarket is directly across the road from my hotel.

If I think of anything useful to say I’ll just amend this post, instead of creating a new one.
