As people you know me will know already, a lot of things bug me. Racism, Intolerance, Organized Religion – just to name a couple.
But certain things not only bug me, but they disturb me a great deal. People who follow religion without understanding the fundamentals; or who take it literally; or who do it for no reason other than because everyone else does it; or women who follow Christianity at all (including Islam, Judaism, Catholicism and any derivatives or sects within the group who call themselves “Christian”).
I was brought up in the Anglican church, but since I learned to think for myself, I haven’t gone. I think one of the reasons for this is I read a lot of books when I was younger, and I’ve even studied (a bit) religion – mostly for my own amusement and so that I can hold my own in an argument about one of the most controversial topics of conversation, anywhere in the world.
It turns out that not a lot of study leads one to know more about the religion than those who follow it.
So today, I got this message from a friend, which was forwarded from a friend etc on Facebook, and it went something like this:
97% of u wont send this:When Jesus died on the cross he was thinking of u.If ur the 3% that care send to 10 ppl and c wat he does 2nite
And that just made me angry. I responded with the following message:
Oh, Jésús? He probably died on the cross from an overdose of something… or a gunshot wound.
Oh, right… you were talking about *that* Jesus… there probably couldn’t be a less significant figure in my life. I reckon that when he died on the cross, I can pretty much guarantee that he was thinking about little other than pain and asphyxiation and facing his mortality and wondering if his martyrdom would be recognized.
So, if I had to hazard a guess: nothing out of the ordinary. He died. It was a long time ago.
However, tonight, it will get dark. The moon will reflect the suns light – though visibility will depend on the weather and where you are.
If you’re in Asia, you will be lucky to see stars. If you’re in the Middle East, you might see stars in addition to other things. If you’re in Europe, you’ll probably see stars (unless its cloudy or snowing). If you’re in Oceania, you’ll see stars, cause hopefully you’ll be outside having a barbie (thats Aussie/NZ for “BBQ”). If you’re in North America, you probably won’t look.
Lecture Mode:
Silly Christians. Bunch of hyprocrites. You all idolize Jesus (and berate religions like Buddhism, Hinduism and such for doing the exact same thing), which, by the way directly violates the first commandment (Catholicism) or the Second Commandment (Jewish, Orthodox, Anglican and Other Christian). Not only that, but the majority of Christians seem to hate Islam and even Judaism, the origin of Christianity, not to mention the essential demonizing of Wicca and Paganism (in its broadest definition) as “Devil Worship” when some aspects of Paganism had pretty heavy influence on Christianity back in the day.
With that in mind, what does Christianity’s popularity owe itself to? If you guessed the Roman emperors (St Augustine) legalization and conversion in 313 A.D, and Theodosius I subsequent establishment of it being the ONLY legal religion alongside Judaism in the Roman Empire in 391 A.D, you’d be right!
Yes, thats right – Christianity became popular due to the fact that the Roman citizens tended to not want to die, and that is the only possible reason that I can think of that Christianity and it’s associated religions (which I hereby GROUP with Islam and Judaism) being accepted by women, who had, in this new faith, been demoted to subservient beings, whereby previously in Paganism and other religions of the era tended to have goddesses, and held women in very high esteem.
Seriously, why would anyone want to do that to themselves? No wonder feminists are pissed off at male oppression BUT what I don’t understand is a feminist who is also christian – that disturbs me, but also shows lack of commitment to either of their causes.
I have two (Greek) words for you all: EN THEO.
In English: Inner god.
English derivatives: Enthusiasm.
Get some. If you’re going to do something, have a cause, or be passionate about something, give it everything, or don’t bother at all. Don’t do anything half-assed.
But thats another story.
Oh, and learn to spell people. You’re typing with a full keyboard, not a cellphone
u = you; ur = your, you’re; ppl = people; c = see; wat = what; 2nite = tonight… geez, I can probably type the actual word faster than I can the txtspeak. Bloody people on this interweb! Should need a license to be on it.
